SWJTU Participates in the LHAASO Project and Makes Important Contributions

Date:2021-05-20

On May 17th, the Institute of High Energy Physics(IHEP) under the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Springer Nature held a joint press conference. The National High Altitude Cosmic Line Observatory (LHAASO), one of the country’s key national science and technology infrastructure facilities, discovered a large number of ultra-high-energy(UHE) cosmic accelerators within the Milky Way and recorded gamma photons (snaps ) with an energy of 1.4 beats from Cygnus, the highest energy photon ever observed, which would overturn humanity's understanding of the galaxy. These findings were published in Nature on the same day as the era of ultra-high-energy gamma astronomy.

The cooperation of multiple domestic and international units plays an important role in the scientific apparatus projects. Southwest Jiaotong University as one of the core cooperation units, more than 20 teachers and students joining the cooperation group, is the unit with the largest number of participants except IHEP.
