On September 28, Tibet Autonomous Regional Government - Southwest Jiaotong University: The Cooperation Agreement of Jointly Developing the School of Applied Engineering Technology, Tibet University, and SWJTU Tibet Research Center was signed by Zeng Wanming, Deputy Chairman of Tibet Autonomous Region, and Xu Fei, President of SWJTU.
The leaderships of Tibet Autonomous Region, Tibet University and SWJTU had participated in and witnessed the signing ceremony.
The establishment of the cooperation ties tally with the requirements of the national development strategy of contributing to maintain the stability and harmony among China’s frontier regions. The agreement prescribes that the School of Applied Engineering Technology in Tibet University will be forged into the cradle of professional and technical engineering personnel in Tibet. A training program will be designed based on the local industrial development demands to provide considerable number of qualified engineering personnel and bring forward industrial modernization in Tibet.
Through the integration of personnel training and engineering technology application, the cooperation will cover the areas like faculty member development, construction of engineering application platform, reform of personnel training model and establishment of Tibet Research Center.
The Tibet University Faculty Member Development Brach Center will be set up according to the available resources achieved by SWJTU Faculty Member Development Center. The branch center will function as a training platform for improving faculty members’ professional skills and upgrading their professional knowledge in lines with its disciplinary planning.
The School of Applied Engineering Technology in Tibet will hire master supervisors from SWJTU in relevant disciplines, and vice versa, so that the both universities can conduct joint-running researches of applied engineering technology and train practical-ability-orientated engineering master students.
The Tibet Autonomous Regional Government, SWJTU and Tibet University had agreed to provide necessary accesses of the relevant research institutes for the others in order to share with each other the scientific and technological resources. Only the efficient integration of the available resources and making a full use of the engineering personnel advantages that can a comprehensive platform for engineering researches and application be founded.
The SWJTU Tibet Research Center planed and managed by SWJTU will be put forward on schedule with the policy support of Tibet Autonomous Region. It aims to develop into an “Innovated Thinking Tank” which focuses on the comprehensive development of Tibet, China’s ethnic policies and frontier management policies.
Party Secretary Gu Liya in the signing ceremony, on behalf of SWJTU, paid her highest tributes and sincerest thanks to the Tibet Autonomous Regional Government for its tremendous help, and Tibet University for its full engagement in promoting the cooperation with SWJTU, as well as the people from all walks of society who have been caring about and giving advices on the development of SWJTU.
Gu indicates that SWJTU has begun to provide assistances for Tibet University since the beginning of the 21th century, endeavoring to take the great responsibility in developing engineering higher education in Tibet and finally succeeding in making a breakthrough.
“Over the past decade, we had worked together to surmount the difficulties one after another and achieved a great amount in engineering higher education cooperation. Now, our footprints have been deeply inscribed on the lands of this beautiful Plateau.”
“Relying on its latest disciplinary developing results, sophisticated university managing procedures, clusters of academic giants as well as profound scientific, technological and information resources,” remarked Deputy Chairman Zeng Wanming, “SWJTU can continue to explore the possible fields of cooperation with Tibet University, which conforms to the mutual benefits of both universities and will further propel the development of Tibet Autonomous Region, such as developing high-level personnel training program and Plateau-specific sciences and technologies.”
Zeng also indicated that the Tibet government will continue to highly evaluate SWJTU’s endeavors in developing engineering higher education in Tibet and provide necessary personnel support for the leap-frog development of Tibet’s economy and society.
