On January 10, 2020, He Chuan, a top scientist from Southwest Jiaotong University, attended the National Science and Technology Award Conference in Beijing. His work received the first prize in the 2019 State Scientific and Technological Progress Award for the Key Technology of Construction and Operation Safety for Large - scale Tunnel Group of Complicated and Dangerous Mountain Highway. This is the third time the university has won this top honor since 1999 (presided by CAS&CAE academician Shen Zhiyun) and 2005 (presided by CAS academician Zhai Wanming).
The Key Technology and Engineering Application of the Interaction between Heavy Haul Train and Track, co-developed by SWJTU scientists Wang Kaiyun and Zhai Wanming was granted the second prize of the Progress Award.
Before the ceremony, the two outstanding SWJTU scientists, among other recipients, were met by Xi Jinping and other party and state leaders.
